Community Spotlight: Motherhood Portraits by Tiana Lashae

Can you share about the services and support you provide to clients?

I have been photographing babies for almost a decade now! I am a lifestyle newborn photographer specializing in Fresh 48 and In-Home newborn portraits. In addition to capturing candid and authentic newborn photos, I also offer birth, maternity, family and milestone photography. Families are able to schedule their entire first year of photos with me!

What do you enjoy most about the work that you do?

I am such a people person. I really enjoy getting to know my clients and connecting with local birth workers. Over the years, my network of friends have grown and I’m able to help my clients in ways that serve them holistically. Most of my clients are first time moms and having resources and relationships with other perinatal professionals makes my clients’ lives a lot easier.

What do you wish more parents knew when it comes to newborn photography?

That your home doesn’t have to be perfect! As a photographer that spends a lot of time in the homes of my clients, the only thing you need is a window with some natural light! Capturing the joy that new babies bring, especially in the comfort of a client’s home, is special enough. Your home, rather permanent or temporary, no matter how big or small, furnished or unfurnished, your home has a story and it’s now a part of your baby’s history!

How do you see mental health intersecting with your work?

I think photography can improve mental health especially during the postpartum period. I was the recipient of a complimentary photo session during one of the most vulnerable times in my life, while my baby was in the NICU. I didn’t get to take my baby home, like most NICU moms. I was mentally overwhelmed, emotionally tired, and didn't feel ready or beautiful. My baby was less than 3lbs!

Looking back at those photos, I see love, beauty, and a different admiration for myself! For the last 5 years, I’ve provided complimentary photo services to families in the NICU in hopes of giving them that same feeling! Remembering the journey and trials, and even more their resilience.

We're always looking to support parents in developing self care practices. What is your favorite way to treat yourself or your favorite self care practice?

Oh I love a good sunset! Please take me to the nearest spot where there’s trees, water, a sunset, food, music, paper and pencil! I enjoy creating. I would love to start exploring more forms of art like poetry, painting, pottery, crafting, etc as part of my self care practices.

If clients want to connect with you, what’s the best way to do that?

I’m  reserving newborn and family portrait sessions through Spring of 2025! You can email me at tiana@tlashaephoto.com or visit my website and submit an inquiry form.
